ASAM Fellows Colloquium in conversation with ASAM fellow Sabrina Tian.

Title: Asian Migration: Emotions & Personal Narratives through Contemporary Art

Abstract: Sabrina is researching contemporary Asian American art created within the 20th century to visualize the emotions and experience of migration narratives from Asia to the U.S. Beyond the overarching patterns of discrimination in immigrant experiences, these artworks depict personal stories and evoke emotions of disorientation, humiliation, and hope. In curating a digital exhibition, she hopes to shift the power dynamic in defining American history and art to tell the narratives of AAPI communities from everyday individuals within. 

Bio: Sabrina is a senior from San Jose, CA studying Design and Cognitive Science to understand humans and design more accessible and inclusive graphics, products, and technologies. At Penn, she previously served as Marketing Tri-Chair of Asian Pacific American Heritage Week (APAHW) and is currently a graphic designer for Penn Student Design. In her free time, she enjoys making digital illustrations and listening to science podcasts.

Masks are required per University and City guidelines except when outside and socially distanced. Everyone must register on Penn Open Pass and sign in at the event per university regulations.
