Event
Lotus Collective @lotusatpenn invite you to a livestream event they are hosting next Sunday, September 6th, 2020.
"Our discussion will be centered around passages from Revolutionary Suicide, Huey P. Newton's autobiography which we studied as a collective this summer. Reading this text together has inspired us to develop a pathway forward for young people who are striving to create change amid the pressing conflicts of our time. We encourage those who tune in to share their comments and questions during the livestream. We hope you will join us in this discussion next Sunday!"
"What is our responsibility as young people and students in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, upcoming presidential election, and Black Lives Matter protests? How do we truly unite against discrimination in a time of despair and isolation? After reading Revolutionary Suicide as a collective, we realize how essential political education is for young people seeking to transform the world yet are battling anxiety, uncertainty, and alienation.
We turn to Huey P. Newton and Grace Lee Boggs, two freedom fighters who committed themselves to the struggle for peace, unity, and freedom for humanity. Huey and Grace are models of revolutionary character who believed that political education was central to the struggle against racism and oppression. Decades after their revolutionary movements, we see the same urgency for a true political education that will inspire young people to transform themselves in order to transform society."
