Considering the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter and the Stop Asian Hate movements, with the Covid-19 pandemic rampant in the background, the intersection of identity, racial discrimination in medicine, and medical education and training has been magnified. In the 2018-2019 medical school application cycle, Laotian, Indonesian, and Cambodian applicants were the most underrepresented, whereas Indian, Chinese, and Korean applicants were the three largest subgroups. Furthermore, given that the racialization experiences differ among East, South, and Southeast Asians based on historical and political factors, the goal of this study is to compare the experiences of these different ethnic subgroups in a clinical setting. This study is important in determining the ways in which social and political definitions of race and racial experiences intersect with the medical field on an interpersonal and systemic level.
