Wednesday Night with ASAM Alumni: Ben Alisuag, CAS'09, and Sherene Joseph CAS'09

Ben Alisuag graduated from Penn in 2009 with a major in English and a minor in Asian American Studies. He is a former APSC Chair, APALI facilitator, and President of the Oracle Senior Honor Society. Since graduation, Ben has spent over a decade in education, learning and technology--from teaching poetry on a Fulbright scholarship in South Africa to launching online universities for UC Berkeley and Stanford. He is now a technical PM at Cruise.

Sherene Joseph graduated from the College of Arts & Sciences in 2009 with degrees in English and Psychology. During her time at Penn, Sherene was the President of the South Asia Society and Vice President of the Oracle Senior Honor Society. Since graduation, Sherene has built a career in journalism-based event marketing through roles at Forbes and The Atlantic. She is currently the Senior Events & Marketing Director at Washingtonian, a regional lifestyle publication based in Washington, DC. In addition to roles in media, Sherene was elected to serve as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner in November 2020 and was sworn in for her two year term in January 2021. She currently serves as Chairperson of the commission, representing the interests of 20,000 residents in DC.

This Spring 2022 semester commemorates 25 years of Asian American Studies at Penn. Join us every Wednesday evening to learn about our history through the personal experiences of our ASAM alums in our new speaker series, Wednesday Nights with ASAM Alumni.  Covering a different period each week, we will kick off the chronological series in January 2022 with a close-up look back at Penn and Asian American life in 1996.  The series will culminate in May 2022 with a look ahead at 2023.  These informal conversations among ASAM friends will be led by the ASAM UAB and will not only be informative but will offer lively memories and shared experiences of undergraduate and graduate life firsthand.  A new part of history and new alums each week!
