Dr. Yung-Yi Diana Pan (Assistant Professor of Sociology, Brooklyn College, City University of New York) will talk about the research from her recent book, Incidental Racialization: Performative Assimilation in Law School (Temple University Press, 2017), which focuses on the systemic inequalities that are produced and sustained in law schools and how they affect Asian and Latino students. This talk will bring light to the larger issue of how systemic inequalities persist in higher and professional educational institutions (and society) as a whole, and will give the Penn community the opportunity to critically think about how to safeguard against such a phenomenon.
