ASAM condemns the recent tragic events in Atlanta
The devastating shootings in Atlanta follow a dramatic rise in attacks against Asian Americans – as well as a much longer history of anti-Asian attacks in this country. Anti-Asian racism was part of the campaign for managing this pandemic – at the highest levels of our government – and it has resulted in murderous violence against the most vulnerable members of our community. Racism inculcated at the highest levels has to be fought at every level. The Asian American Studies Program was created out of an activist call to defend our community, and we are committed to exposing the history, structure, and culture of anti-Asian racism in America – and most importantly, to demonstrate the power of solidarity.
