The Pearl Street clean-up project will be from 10 AM - 2 PM, though you are welcome to come for any portion of that time.
For attire: don't forget to wear closed-toe shoes, preferably sneakers. Also wear clothing that you wouldn't mind getting dirty or getting paint on. Volunteers will receive a Comcast t-shirt when they check in, while supplies last.
Schedule:
- Part one: From 10:30am until noon-ish, cleaning up the alley, which will involve sweeping, trash picking, scraping paint, and repainting walls which have been heavily graffiti-ed over. Once the clean-up is finished, we will eat lunch together. There will be vegetarian and kosher options
- Part two: Starting around 12:30pm, divide into small groups to help Micro-Project artists work on their respective projects). During lunch, each artist/artist team will explain what their project is. Volunteers can choose which projects they want to help on, and also rotate from one project to another
We will officially wrap up around 2pm, but if any of the artists want to continue working, volunteers are entirely welcome to hang out for as long as they wish.
Travel:
There will be two groups leaving campus - Kristen Kelly will take one group to Chinatown at 9:30 AM (we will meet at 9:30 in the lobby of Hill House) and Jessica Lee and Emily Jun will lead a second group around 12:00 PM.
Asian American Studies is going to be subsidizing transportation costs for any students interested in volunteering. In order to get tokens, you should try to meet up with one of the groups during the above mentioned departure times. (If you plan on going at a different time, either coordinate with Kristen in advance to pick up tokens beforehand, or I can reimburse you with tokens when you arrive in Chinatown.)

Asian Arts Initiative is located at 1219 Pearl Street, and we will be traveling to the intersection of 12th and Pearl Street for the project.
Directions:
- To get to AAI from campus, take the Market Frankford Line (MFL) at 34th Eastbound towards Frankford.
- Get off at the 11th Street Station, and walk to 12th Street.
- You will be at the intersection of 12th and Market. Walk North until you reach Pearl Street. (Note: you will have to cross the Vine Street Expressway. Do not be thrown off - you are going in the right direction! If you haven't traveled to Chinatown North before, it can be disorienting!)
Again, we will be leading two groups back and forth, so you should be able to tag along with a group if you do not think you can find the location on your own. Please contact any of the above members if you need any more information. We are happy to answer any other questions you might have!
