Dr. Franklin Odo- Asian Americans & Public History/ Memory

ASAM is thrilled to welcome Spring Visiting Professor, scholar, and historian Franklin Odo to Penn. Dr. Odo is surrently John Jay McCloy Visiting Professor of American Institutions and International Diplomacy at Amherst Collge and an Advisor to the National Park Service. He previously served as Director of the Asian Pacific American Program at the Smithsonian Institution.

His course, Asian Americans & Public History/ Memory, (ASAM203-301) traces the public history (in museums, libraries, Youtube) that defines much of what we accept as interpretations of our past. What roles do our major federal agencies play in this context? How can we more thoroughly discuss what America remembers and what we forget?
