Title: Improving Asian Americans' physical and mental health through community traditional medicine Qigong exercise -- A study on feasibility and effectiveness

Abstract: Baduanjin, a form of traditional Chinese medical Qigong exercise, is extensively proven to be effective in improving both physical and mental health in native Chinese populations. In this study, we aim to discover how Baduanjin can be used as a method to improve the health of Asian Americans, starting from Chinese Americans. We collect data on our subjects' psychological health aspects such as sleep, emotions, and memory, and compare the change in the data before and after the intervention. Along with qualitative analysis on how Chinese Americans perceive Baduanjin, we hope to explore how Asian medical practices can play a role in improving the health of Asian American communities.

Bio: Yuting is a sophomore from Shanghai, China, majoring in Health and Societies and Sociology. Recently she has been writing for publication which analyzes Chinese perspectives in the global neuroethics discourse. She has published a forum essay on The Hastings Center on Chinese regulation and ethical challenges on genetic engineering, focusing the lens on He Jiankui's affair. https://www.thehastingscenter.org/from-gene-edited-embryos-to-covid-china-faces-regulatory-and-ethical-challenges/ Her project with ASAM uses statistical analysis to test the feasibility and effectiveness of employing traditional Asian medical practices to improve the health of Asian American populations. During weekends, she likes hiking around Philly and watching birds with Van Pelt's binoculars.
