Rupa Pillai is a lecturer in the Asian American Studies program at Tufts University. She earned her doctorate in cultural anthropology from the University of Oregon in 2017. Her research focuses on the intersection of religion, race, history and migration. In particularly she is interested in how religious practices and beliefs travel and adapt to new contexts and how the itinerary of movement impacts these adaptations.
