Andrea Mitchell Professor of English
Dr. Conn earned his PhD at Yale before coming to Penn. He has won a number of awards, including fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and NEH, along with both the Lindback Award and the Ira Abrams Award for teaching. He is the author of The Divided Mind: Ideology and Imagination in America, 1898-1917 and of Literature in America, a one-volume history of American literature, both published by Cambridge University Press. Conn's latest book, Pearl S. Buck: A Cultural Biography, will be published by Cambridge University Press in the fall of 1996. He has served as graduate chair of English and American Civilization, as dean of the college, and as Senior Faculty Resident of Community House. He is currently chair of the manuscripts committee of MLA's Americal Literature Section.
