Laura

ASAM invites you to know more about Laura Gao (she/they) a graduated student from Penn in 2018, a queer Asian-American author and artist, with a debut graphic memoir, MESSY ROOTS, about wrestling with their identity and sexuality as one of the few families of color in their small town in Texas, and ultimately the LGBTQ and Asian-American communities they embraced at Penn!

MESSY ROOTS, is a graphic memoir storytelling about growing up a queer Chinese-American immigrant in Texas. It will be published by HarperCollins on February 15, 2022, and was originally inspired by their viral comic, The Wuhan I Know, about the anti-Asian hate my family experienced during COVID as immigrants from Wuhan.
